Venezuelan graphic designer living and working in Nanjing - China by one of these incredible chances in life.
Professional curious and with the firm conviction that everything that crosses in front your eyes is information and could serve for something sometime during life, so I am one of those who have boxes and piles of stuff (useful or not) saved in a corner of the house.
Fan of buying totally useless things only because make me happy and I like to see them there just posing for me.
I will never stop to enjoy a good cartoon, toys and sweets. Because I live with the feeling that I am always late to everything and discover more and more things that were always there and that I should have seen before, I refuse to get old.
That's right, I was riding a petrol scooter with no plates. Im completely aware of my fault and the police acted accordingly, but they were very gentle and well mannered in fact we had a few laughs.
They make it so difficult to get a plate that the amount of people riding unlicensed bikes is staggering I believe in the future they will have to review their policies because people won't stop riding bikes and they could have in their hands an uncontrollable situation with illegal riders.
It was in Fenghuangjie a block away from Hanzhongmen. There is a lot of traffic in that street so the park the unmarked truck and hide in front of it, because of the heavy traffic is an easy catch for them.
This is my 3rd scooter, 2 previous stolen so I've been riding for a couple of years, and yes because of the holidays they are catching everything that moves.
I would advise to avoid that particular street and any traffic jam in general, I also noticed that they are setting control spots in gas stations so be aware and careful.
I'm sorry but I will have to agree with John on this one.
Traffic police to me is less than a joke, the only time I see patrols and policeman putting tickets is in those day close to a holiday, the rest of the time they are nowhere to be seen. Sometimes they are standing in the corners and intersections as infractions come and go and they just stand there like scarecrows and I swear that most of the time I see a terrible traffic jam there is one of those dummies in the middle of the jam making things even worse.
Another thing is, if traffic laws are so tightly enforced how come people still drive like animals? and I'm sorry if I offend someone but there is no other way to describe the behavior of the drivers in China. After 2 years driving in Nanjing is really frightening to see the irresponsibility in the street not only of drivers but also pedestrians.
AiTime used to be in JiangDongBeiLu, Dongbao Lu #8 but stopped working about a year ago.
It's a shame because it was a really beautiful place.
if you want a nice place to take the family I would suggest the Andover Under Water World in Purple Mountain, I was there last weekend is really great I don't know why is not better promoted. A most visit in Nanjing.
They have a new exhibition of jelly fishes, really cool.
If you want to go for a petrol moped you will need a registration plate, which is not the same as the driver license. You are right if the moped is no higher than 50cc you don't need a driver license but you still need to have at least the little green plate which can cost as much as the bike.
The one that I use is a Jincheng/Suzuki, I paid something close to eight thousand rmb including the plate, this bike is very popular (because is the cheapest), small and light but is easy to maintain and can take the beat of everyday riding.
I got it in a big store located in HujuLu, in the intersection of BeijingXiLu and CaochangmenDaJie going south, the people there is really cool and helpful but you need to take a chinese friend with you.

As a foreigner living in China is already living over the edge of what is morally acceptable. Don't forget you are supporting the most vicious regime that has existed in the history of mankind. So, while you here try to balance things a bit and draw the same line like others have already drawn it for you back home. So, next time do not stand there laughing sheepishnessly when you are in the center of a disgusting display of free-flow racism. Do something.
