Hi guys,
We talked about this a little on Hellonanjing.net as well. Since it was my post I think it is fine to copy and paste.

he best value is Zi xia hu. With a passport photo you can get a 1/2 year parks card and go there, most people swim with people or relax with an inner tube as the middle of the lake can get quite cool.
Other options if you have the cash are Hotel pools, Holiday Inn pool has a card 2000 CNY for 100 times. I could be off on the price. Then there are other hotels like Sofitel and Westin which are in the 10,000 cny year gym membership. I think in Jianye Fraser suites has a nice indoor one and some other compounds have pools too like Wanke, and No.1 Mansion.
I had a friend who used to swim at sunning which is in the 3,000 range I think. Wutai shan is an option with lots of choices on cards but can get very crowded, and I recommend going at weird hours like 7:30 pm at night or 12:30 pm in the afternoon. Wutai shan does have a kiddie paddling pool if that is a consideration.
There is also an indoor water park near Taiping men and the exhibition center . I think it was 85 cny several years ago. Plus an out door water park at Tangshan 100 + CNy for the day ticket. (which seemed very crowded when I was stuck traffic driving passed it 3 weeks ago. Both have slides, wave pool and high platform pool.
I had a membership at the Wutai shan Gym (different from the Wutai shan pool) It was good and had a 40 meter pool that was only a bit crowded in the evenings.I think it was 3-4,000 for a year but is likely more expensive now. Like most places they only open around 10 or 11 am in the morning which meant no early morning swims.
Several of the hotels will have instructors as well if you want to get lessons. I think they can be pricey as they are usually small or 1 on 1 classes. Universities have other swimming classes. Nanjing University has synchronized swimming as well as normal style.
There are some options in Nanjing.
Warm regards,
Simon
