I couldn't agree more about 90% of expats being unable to get a job in their native countries.
Let's face it all or most of us expats( myself included) a 'story' for being here- problems at home-wives-police-relationships- can't find a girl in homeland etc.
With regards the the quality of English teachers. English teacher is usually a misnomer- schools say they have "English teachers" when in fact they have English speakers- that masquerade as English teachers. I am an English teacher and have been teaching English as a foreign language for more than 20 years. I have worked in China for 4 years, during that 4 years,I have not once met another real "English teacher". I have met some good English speakers that are doing a "reasonable" job of teaching- but most of the teachers are to say the least "dismal" and don't know the difference between the present perfect and a phrasal verb.
Most schools want "Kleenex" teachers- use them and throw them away later. Hire cheap( quality doesn't count). This is doing a great disservice to the school's students who pay a lot for their courses and told they will have experienced English teachers. But what can you expect- this is China.
