I keep seeing ads on this site from people looking for work teaching English, yet the ads themselves are full of mistakes. Would you hire an English teacher who cannot spell the word "English"?

Just to clarify, Englsih is a specialised form of automated production of stuffed toys. With this morsel of information, the recent advert becomes more understandable! :side:

It's a double edged sword. Many of these local kindergartens have such low standards they cannot attract a slightly better quality of teacher. They end up with teachers who could hardly find any job in their own country, work them to the bone while forcing them to behave like a monkey under terrible conditions. No wonder they end up drowning their sorrows in Ellen's. And that's sure not to improve their spelling!

Met too many bottom feeders in China

What percentage of the expats in China couldnt get a job in their own country I wonder ?

Excluding the students studying Chinese I'd say 90%+

I couldn't agree more about 90% of expats being unable to get a job in their native countries.
Let's face it all or most of us expats( myself included) a 'story' for being here- problems at home-wives-police-relationships- can't find a girl in homeland etc.

With regards the the quality of English teachers. English teacher is usually a misnomer- schools say they have "English teachers" when in fact they have English speakers- that masquerade as English teachers. I am an English teacher and have been teaching English as a foreign language for more than 20 years. I have worked in China for 4 years, during that 4 years,I have not once met another real "English teacher". I have met some good English speakers that are doing a "reasonable" job of teaching- but most of the teachers are to say the least "dismal" and don't know the difference between the present perfect and a phrasal verb.
Most schools want "Kleenex" teachers- use them and throw them away later. Hire cheap( quality doesn't count). This is doing a great disservice to the school's students who pay a lot for their courses and told they will have experienced English teachers. But what can you expect- this is China.
